When replacement is the right call

Cracks longer than a dollar bill, damage in the driver’s line of sight, chips at the edge of the glass, or multiple points of damage usually mean the windshield should be replaced rather than repaired. A damaged windshield is a structural part of the vehicle — it supports the roof and gives airbags a surface to deploy against — so it’s not a cosmetic decision.

What the job involves

The old glass is cut out, the pinch weld is cleaned and prepped, new urethane adhesive is applied, and the new windshield is set and aligned. The adhesive needs a safe drive-away time before the vehicle is back on the road — your installer will tell you exactly how long for the adhesive used on your job.

Insurance

Windshield replacement is covered under the comprehensive portion of most auto policies. Depending on your deductible and your state, your out-of-pocket cost may be far less than you expect. Ask when you call — the shop can walk you through how your coverage applies before any work is done.

How it works

Three steps, no shop visit

1

Tell us what broke

Send the form or call. Your VIN or plate gets us the exact glass for your vehicle, including whether it carries a camera, rain sensor or heating element.

2

We check your coverage first

Before anything is scheduled we confirm what your policy covers — or give you a straight cash price — so the price you hear is the price you pay. No claim is filed until you say go.

3

We come to you

Your driveway, your office lot, your job site — wherever the vehicle is. We fit the glass, recalibrate the camera if there is one, and tell you when it's safe to drive.

We handle the claim with your carrier

Glass coverage sits in the comprehensive part of your policy — and we do the paperwork.

Glass claims in Colorado

Glass damage is covered under the comprehensive part of your policy, and your comprehensive deductible applies to a replacement.

Most carriers waive the deductible entirely for a chip repair, because a repair costs them a fraction of a replacement. If the damage is still repairable, that is usually the cheapest outcome for everyone.

We file the claim with your carrier and deal with them directly, so you are not on hold for an afternoon. Call us with your policy number and we will check your coverage with you before you commit to anything.

Paying cash

Not going through insurance? You get a straight price up front, before any work starts — no surprises when the job is done.

Most carriers waive the deductible on a chip repair even where a replacement would carry one — a repair costs them a fraction of new glass.

Damage smaller than a dollar bill, out of the driver’s line of sight and away from the edge, can usually still be repaired — which is quicker, cheaper, and keeps the original factory seal. Once it spreads, it is a replacement, so it is worth calling early.

General information only, not advice about your policy — coverage depends on the policy you hold, so check with your carrier. We are an independent glass shop and are not affiliated with or endorsed by any insurance company. Your choice of repair shop is yours to make.

I needed a quick replacement window for my sedan after it was smashed in . I called around to several places in the area and HV had the best price by about $30-$90. They were able to make time for me that day and even came to my house for no extra charge. I really appreciated that they gave me a courtesy call to let me know when the truck was 15 minutes out. All of the employees were polite and the work was very efficient and well done! Would definitely recommend!

I was impressed! - best price (checked with 10 other companies) - easiest communication - fast and efficient I did have to wait 30ish minutes for them to arrive back to their shop and was late to a meeting, but they were right about the camera recalibration! It's been three days and all is well.

Questions

Frequently asked

How much does a windshield replacement cost in Denver?

The windshield replacement cost varies depending on your vehicle's make, model, and the technology embedded in the glass. At HV Auto Glass, we provide free, competitive quotes for the Denver and Lakewood area, ensuring the best value for high-quality automotive glass backed by 25 years of experience.

Do you offer mobile auto glass repair services?

Yes, we provide a professional mobile auto glass service. If you can't visit us at 1440 Sheridan Blvd, our expert technicians will come to your home or office to perform a side window replacement or windshield install with the same quality standards as our shop.

How long does it take to replace a car's side window?

A side window replacement typically takes between 60 to 90 minutes. Our process includes installing the new tempered glass and a deep cleanup of all broken glass shards inside the door panel and the vehicle's interior.

What should I do if my back windshield (back glass) is shattered?

Unlike the front windshield, back glass is made of tempered glass and shatters completely upon impact. We provide professional replacement services, ensuring that your rear defroster and integrated antennas are fully reconnected for total visibility.

Do you repair electric window regulators and motors?

Absolutely. If your window won't roll up or is making strange noises, we specialize in window regulator repair and motor replacement. Often, you don't need new glass; you just need the internal mechanism serviced to get your power windows working like new.

Is it safe to drive immediately after a new windshield installation?

We recommend waiting for the urethane drive-away time (usually 1 hour) to ensure an airtight and structural seal. At HV Auto Glass, we use high-quality, industrial-grade adhesives that meet all safety standards for every auto glass installation.

What types of vehicles do you service at HV Auto Glass?

We provide expert services for cars, trucks, SUVs, and commercial vans. Whether it's a classic car or a modern vehicle requiring camera calibration, our 25-year track record allows us to handle any automotive glass needs in the 80214 area.

Where can I find a bilingual auto glass service near me?

We are conveniently located at 1440 Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO 80214. As a local, bilingual business, we offer personalized service in English and Spanish, making the quoting and repair process easy for our entire community.

Can you fix a little chip or crack, or does it mean I need a brand new windshield?

If the crack is smaller than a quarter, we can usually just repair it. If it's bigger than that, or if it's right in your line of sight, we definitely recommend getting the whole thing replaced.

Do you guys use original equipment (OEM) glass or aftermarket/generic?

We carry both. We have the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) glass—the stuff straight from the dealership—and also high-quality, more affordable options.

Do you guys only replace windshields, or can you swap out other windows too?

We replace windshields, side windows, rear windows (back glass), vent glass, sunroofs (moonroofs), and we also fix window regulators or side window motors.

What kind of payment methods do you accept?

We take cash, Zelle, or Venmo. Just so you know, we don't accept debit or credit cards right now.

Will filing a glass claim raise my rates?

Glass damage is handled under the comprehensive part of your policy, not collision or liability, and comprehensive claims are generally treated differently from an at-fault accident. Every carrier and policy is different, though, so your carrier is the one who can confirm it for yours. Either way, nothing is filed until you tell us to.

Should I use insurance or just pay cash?

It comes down to two numbers: your comprehensive deductible and the price of the glass. If your deductible is $250 and the replacement is $550, claiming saves you $300. If your deductible is $500 and the glass is $420, paying directly is cheaper — and there is no claim on your record. We will price it both ways before you decide.

Can my windshield be repaired instead of replaced?

Often, yes. Damage smaller than a dollar bill, outside the driver’s line of sight and away from the edge of the glass can usually be repaired rather than replaced. A repair is quicker, costs less, and keeps the original factory seal. Send a photo with your quote and we will tell you straight — including when it is the smaller job.

Does my car need a camera recalibration?

If there is a camera mounted behind your windshield — lane keeping, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise — the manufacturer generally requires recalibration after the glass is replaced, so the system aims where it is supposed to. Your VIN tells us whether yours has one, and if it does we include it in the quote up front rather than after the job.
